Ever since Sufis began to speak about Sufism, they have defined it in many different ways. translated from Persian, titled What is Tasawwuf (Sufism). Sufis-which is what practioners of Sufism are called- see themselves to be on a spiritual journey toward God. In order to guide spiritual travellers and to express the states of consciousness experienced on this journey, Sufis produced an enormously rich body of literature, This journey is referred to as the path (tariqah). While all Muslims believe that they are on the pathway to God and will become close to God in Paradise- after death and the " Final Judgment "- Sufis believe as well that it is possible to become close to God and to experience this closeness- while one is alive.
Furthermore, the attainment of the knowledge that comes with such intimacy with God, Sufis assert, is the very purpose of the creation. Here mentioning the hadith qudsi in which God states, " I was a hidden treasure and I loved that I be known, so I created the creation in order to be known." Hence for the Sufis there is already a momentum, a continuous attraction on their hearts exerted by God, pulling them, in love, towards God. They experience the joyful ecstasy of being gently drawn to their Eternal Beloved, yet this primordially blissful return seems to have been interrupted. The Persian poet Hafiz remarked,
O Wine giver, pour me a cup and pass it around
for love seemed easy at first, but later the difficulties arose.
Allah Hafiz ! ( May Allah protect you ) Wishing every my friends to have a blessed and most quietude weekend with lots frisky moments !

Hi Dear owais,
I have not forgotten about you. That will never happen. I didn't have a computer for almost a month and got really behind trying to read everyones' blogs and comments. I finally gave up, and decided to start fresh. I got a new computer and it took me a couple of weeks to figure out everything. So now here I am back with you again.
I know little about Sufiism, though one of my favourite books for the last ten years has been “Caravan of Dreams - by Idries Shah. When I first read the stories, I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. The stories went in a totally different direction than I anticipated they would. The stories left me stunned - thinking in places my mind and heart had not gone before. I re-read the book at least once a year, and love it every single time.
My cousin has a Sufi friend from Ethiopia. I will ask him more about Sufiism when I next see him. I am printing out your blog so I can read it leisurely.
