What would you fight for?

Posted on Jan 9th, 2008 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for January 09, 2008:

My major initiative however is for dowry system, those women who are reared and fostered into poverty, illiteracy could not get married due to dowry and are forced into evils of societies.
Dowry system is ancient graceful custom of indian society, a form of graceful gift given by parent during marriage of their daughter, now this custom has been converted by malice and nuisance into greed and way of trade, people take advantage by demanding huge money and household stuffs which is seemingly burden to accomplish by poor parent, however they agree by mortgaging their houses, farms and few belongings. the thirst of money by these heartless, malice and cruels does not get fulfill even after they get their demanded offerings and lead them to abandon or burn or even killed these unfortunate women. In either ways women just get confined and so is carried by with their curses all along their life.

women with multiple kids being abandoned by their husband is hard for them to survive and fostered them which in turn compel such unfortunate women to suicide and lead these kids into darkness and so cycle keep on multiplying like cancer in the society which is now a major challenging issue.I myself have taught many people around me please cripple this custom for the sake of these unfortunate and helpless women.I have decided not accept this custom however in my life.

I would fight for the empowerment of women, education and brain washing of children which is prevailing in some Indian communities.

Awesome.
Have you met Barbara? She's headed to India today to work on this story, and the femicide associated with the dowries.

Excellent post,
Thank You!

Ahh, wonderful comments there. I just recently met her myself =)

I applaud all who bring awareness to these issues, anytime and anywhere.
Shedding Light by focusing on these injustices with awareness and in-your-face-ness is the only way to alleviate these problems.
Nothing will ever change if it is not brought before the eyes.

I thank you for this and for your Blessings =)

How would you fight this, owais? It's really great if youngsters, who're getting married, refuse to accept, or give dowry. And not only just money but also those one-sided gifts, which only the “girl's side” gives to the bridegroom.

I made it clear I wouldn't get married that way; and was fortunate that my in-laws felt the same way!

I will fight by educating people about the evils responsible due to dowry, I will fight by organising like-minded people into a volunteer group visiting remote areas and teaching them how can we use dowry as positively, to abolish dowry simply required to spread education among women, and empowering them. uneducation is the culprit for throwing women into evils and prone to clutches of cruel men under the pretext of dowry.

If you see closely it is not the dowry but the way of grasping it and following is entirely different from the custom which ancinet sages and ancestors implied upon the society. man is so selfish, when he sees he does not posses anything then he manipulate and devise many bad ways to earn his livelihood, so they do it by taking the advantage of arranged marriage in our Indian society.

Well there are many boys in India who have refused to accept dowry instead, and so people are stressing upon this. we are hopeful to curtail it later since people have realised lately its circumstances over the few years. so it is working positively rather. well I am very much interested and wanted to volunteer briskly myself in uprooting this evil from the society. I want to write about this topic elaborately, precisely and to spread it across the society and its ways.
Thank you for the courage you come up for dowry, I am so proud feel for you. great work.

Dhanyavaad for reading and posting your comment, dhanyavaad !
