Is there something that you do for someone else every day?

Posted on Dec 2nd, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 01, 2007:

I still cry and ask myself oftenly '' Why God has created poors and rich in the world ?''  when I pass through slum dwellers and street kids in ragged clothes with shabby look. I have seen and met many such people who never stepped into school , do not know how to write and read even their native languages, struggle and labour just to get food for atleast one time a day . Instead of holding pens and books, working into match-making, black-smith's factories, chemical and tanneries, explosive factories , cleaning utensils at grim cafes just for nothing but a piece of toast and a cup of tea.
Instead of playing and enjoying their childhood , eyeing and scattering heaps of garbages lying on streets containing non-biodegradable , toxic substances and foul smelling stuffs, in order to get something which could make money for their foods by selling them.

I think for these extreme poors and destitutes before my sleep. by grace of God , i am imparting Basic Elementary education to such below poverty-line sections of society. mom also cook for them but once a week on friday noon.
being myself not rich therefore i help them upto this meagre helping hand and shares with them my intellectual knowledges and strengthening their english. pressuring them to adopt Yoga in their lives.
Visiting such communities once a week and sit with them and gossip, telling them stories of successful Americans and Europeans just to inspire to change their destinities too and latest happenings of the wrold. they love me and pray for me and so i do for them. majority of such communities inhabited in my town suffer from number of diseases like TB, AIDS, Leprosy, epidemic, cancer, malnutritioned and starvation and so.

I have a plan to create Cottage Industries inorder to employ these sections of people in such factories. since it is low Small Scale Industries primarily based on handicrafts and art skills which such people could provide rather than capital investments and machineries. The company will be based on Co-operative societies and self-empowerment. I think Employment is the main cause of all roots i.e poverty, diseases, unemployment, illiteracy, malnutrition and so. May i could accomplish my this dream.
Yes it is this what i do and think to do for others, they make me cry due to their conditions and starvation.

What role do dreams play in your life?

Posted on Dec 5th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 05, 2007:

yes i do merely endeavour to complete my goals earnestly. I dream to open libraries, cottage industries, medical facilities for inhabitants of below poverty-line forthly than mine other dreams. infact, i do consider any noble dream as an act of scouring oneself 's scornfullness, malishness and constantly carving out perfection through him/her. I think to dream is wise, cuz it strenghten our resolution  and will power. dreams form an integral part in my life and meaning to live in this world.
In my life dreams are very important for me cuz it gives me a sensation of ecstasy, mirth inspiration , accord, ideas of nobility, hope, glimpses of pleasures when i realise about its accomplishment. i feel waves of glee into myself when i envisage dreams being accomplished.

Do you pay much attention to what others think of you?

Posted on Dec 7th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 06, 2007:

I am sometime introvert, sometime obstinate to my ideas, thoughts, opinions. but i am convivial type. I feel repulsive to conversations pertaining to criticism and prase oneself.
i generally ignore such things around me thats why friends says owais is eccentric sometime. do you think this is act of awkward behaviour ?
I think if one realises or being commented for vices is led by morosity, sadness, weakening one's confidence, restless, nervousness, irascible ; similarly one if being praise or realises his traits led him over- excitement, vanity, egoism and so others negative provokation.

I am regardless to what people say or praise for me and for my ideas, opinions, thoughts. I think commenting or complimenting over oneself is just act of sophisticate.

I still see around me many people victim of unequalities. Cannot we erase the gap of rich n poor, cannot we create world of love rather than world of trade ? we can if we get together, and Zaadz is definately playing his role truthly . effort needed to fasten up the process n ideals of Zaadz round the world rapidly n multiplyly

SATI - A curse to Indian women society

Posted on Dec 11th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
ganges

Sati - sanskrit word meaning Burning oneself . Sati was mainly practiced by Rajput women and orginally developed by Rajput family inhabiting North western parts of India. During Medieval period annexation by persian rulers gave oppurtunity to practice intensely, however, history of sati goes back to around this period.

According to Manuscript, the classifier of Indian Hindu Society, divisioned Hindu society into four divisions namely BRAHMINS, KSHATRIYAS, VAISHYAS and lastly SUDRAS. Manuscript classified Brahmins as upper caste who were devoted in the duty of teachings ( vedas, sanskrit, upanishads ) and offering poojas (prayers) into the temple. Kshatriyas were devoted in the duty of fighting battles and also considered as furious warriors. Vaishayas were engaged in the trade and transactions, presently majority of rich and well to do, flourished families belong to this caste. SUDRAS wer devoted in the duty of cleaning human wastes and untouchable duties and were forbidden to attend poojas and temples who popularly known as UNTOUCHABLES also.

Since Rajputs belonging to Kshatriyas division therefore they were mostly engaged in battles and ruling the provinces of India. Kshatriyas were mainly concentrated into the Northern India. the men dominant Indian society imposed Sati on women inorder to avoid their wives being captured by enemies when they lost. During medieval period, India saw many attacks compelling women to practice sati widely. later, this Sati practice were considered to be the act of pride and this pride led Hindu women to practice even if their husband died incase of any misfortunate or natural death rather than killed into wars.

Sati became so popular and almost gripped whole India decades past. Thanks and salutations to great souls such as Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar, Raja Rammohan Roy, Vivekanand, Mahatma Gandhi etc who successfully uproted this pernicious act from the society. but however after the independence of India, Sati was still prevalent into some parts of Rajasthan, uttar pradesh and Delhi. but slowly and slowly with the advancement and exposure with education and modern society helped in abolishing this practice.

Presently, It is been assumed that still in some remote and backward areas of Northern India is happening sparsely. A case of SATI recently happened in Rajasthan in the month of June. Fortunately, it has been abolished but still the bad days for women society in India exits in the form of Dowry system, Illiteracy, Tyranny by men, Unempowerment, Absence of financial freedom, veil system.

I bow and acknowledge efforts of Mahatma Gandhi who successfully abolished sati, untouchability, casteism from societies.

I think by crippling all the barriers in the name of nation, creed, cultures, gender and so, by becoming more organic and green, by respecting women and their moral values and acknowledging their calibre reverent to the society. by respecting laws of nature and immediate halt to factors or activities contributing Global warming, Extinction of species, Fresh water crisis, Depletion of resources.

By integrating people from every corners of the world and fighting together to sweep away social evils prevailing in each parts of the world. By giving up nationalism feelings. Complete disarmament and demilitarisation to nations. By following live for others and share their problems to erase briskly.

By becoming more conscious and burning desire to realise true humanity n its ideals. By loving every humankind, nature n its cycles, animals and birds tremendously. we shall strive for making zaadz communities in our residing places offcourse.

By giving up feelings of capitalism and economy based, and what bad in depending upon agri-based life which majority of mankind's span lived. natural is always refreshing, deep and soothing and genuine.
I pondered these ideas through my 20 minutes muse.

Infact, it beyond my perception to define relation or interdependence or similarities between reason and perception. but i think reason is what enlightenment. i define enlightenment as extreme feelings of connectedness with plants, nature, animals, people infront of us and everythings around us. the complete feeling of oneness with universe is what i think enlightenment and so i relate reason with enlightenment.

Street Kids

Posted on Dec 16th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais

street kids, street kids ... shouting passers-by
slabby feet, hands clad into filthy torn rags
barefooted crawling on the street ' hot as griddle '
scouring pryingly at the heaps of garbages,
faces wearing stern scowl visage,
crawling through dense crowd into torrid summers
in seek of cadging a bread, or penny.
passer-by keep shouting street kids, street kids ..

street kids, street kids ... shouting cops
lying on pedestrian in icy chilly night
shuddering into spun tattered woolens,
limp with wan, scraggy and under-nourished appearences,
with craving harse voice
victim of oppression and ignorance
cops keep shouting street kids, street kids ....

No mother father, no brother sister, not family for them
no festival joys, no love affections still do not
but crave for a bread or single penny ,
sleep wherever they reach during break of dark nights,
in derelict houses, on deserted streets
into refuse pipes, in hackeyed motors,
beside factories emit reeking fumes, under refues bins
but people are blind, are heartless,
people are conscienceless, are selfish.

my heart sink with wave of timidness,
 tears roll down cheeks,
face knit up sullen and creases frown countenance,
but still helpless, useless for them.

still cannot bring them a cherishing joyous life, is this what I am  ?

This is my first and small poem solely and exclusively written by me, Thank you for reading it.
Your kind donations at   http://www.cry.org/   can help in vast dimension in changing their life. it is my humble appeal and request.

Taj mahal - one of seven wonder of modern world

Posted on Dec 18th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais

" The Moghul Emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his wife Mumtaz, built the Taj Mahal. It was built in 22 years (1631 to 1653) by 20,000 artisans brought to India from all over the world . Many people believe Ustad Isa of Iran designed it." This is what your guide probably  told you if you ever visited the Taj Mahal. This is the same story I read in my history book as a student.

NOW READ THIS.......

No one has ever challenged it except Prof. P. N. Oak, who believes the whole world has been duped. In his book  Taj Mahal: The True Story, Oak says the Taj Mahal is not Queen Mumtaz's tomb but an ancient Hindu temple palace of Lord Shiva (then known as Tejo Mahalaya). In the course of his research Oak discovered that the Shiva temple palace was usurped by Shah Jahan from then Maharaja of Jaipur, Jai Singh.

In his own court chronicle, Badshahnama, Shah Jahan admits that an exceptionally beautiful grand mansion in Agra was taken from Jai SIngh for Mumtaz's burial. Theex-Maharaja of Jaipur still retains in his secret collection two orders from ShahJahan for surrendering the Taj building. Using captured temples and mansions, as a burial place for dead courtiers and royalty was a common practice among Muslim rulers. For example, Humayun, Akbar, Etmud-ud-Daula and Safdarjung are allburied in such mansions. Oak's inquiries began with the name of Taj-Mahal. He says the term "Mahal" has never been used for a building in any Muslim countries from Afghanisthan to Algeria.

"The unusual explanation thatthe term Taj Mahal derives from Mumtaz Mahal was illogical in atleast respects. Firstly, her name was never Mumtaz Mahal but Mumtaz-ul-Zamani," hewrites. Secondly, one cannot omit the first three letters 'Mum' from a woman's name to derive the remainder as the name for thebuilding." TajMahal, he claims, is a corrupt version of Tejo Mahalaya, or Lord Shiva'sPalace. Oak also says the love story of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan is a fairy tale created by court sycophants, blundering historians and sloppyarchaeologists. Not a single royal chronicle of Shah Jahan's time corroborates the lovestory. Furthermore, Oak cites several documents suggesting the Taj-Mahal predates Shah Jahan's era, and was a temple dedicated to Shiva, worshipped by Rajputs of Agra city. For example, Prof. Marvin Millerof New-York took a few samples from the riverside doorway of the Taj. Carbon dating tests revealed that the door was 300 years older than Shah Jahan. European traveler Johan Albert Mandelslo, who visited Agra in 1638 (only sevenyearsafter Mumtaz's death), describes the life of the city in his memoirs. But he makes no reference to the Taj Mahal being built. The writings ofPeter Mundy,an English visitor to Agra within a year of Mumtaz's death, also suggest the Taj was a noteworthy building well before Shah Jahan's time. Prof. Oak points out a number of design and architecturalinconsistencies that support the belief of the Taj Mahal being a typical Hindu temple rather than a mausoleum. Many rooms in the Taj !Mahal have remained sealed since Shah Jahan's time and are still inaccessible to thepublic. Oak asserts they contain a headless statue of Lord Shiva and other objects commonly used for worship rituals in Hindu temples.

Here is a close up of the upper portion of the pinnacle of the Taj Mahal, photographed from the parapet beneath the dome. The Hindu horizontal crescent and the coconut top together look like a trident from the garden level. Islamic crescents are always oblique. Moreover they are almost always complete circles leaving a little opening for a star. This Hindu pinnacle had all these centuries been misinterpreted as an Islamic crescent and star or a lightning conductor installed by the British. The word "Allah" etched here by Shahjahan is absent in the courtyard replica. The coconut, the bent mango leaves under it and the supporting Kalash (water pot) are exclusive Hindu motifs.

Fearing political backlash,Indira Gandhi's government tried to have Prof. Oak's book withdrawnfrom the bookstores, and threatened the Indian publisher of the first edition dire consequences. There is only one way to discredit or validate Oak's research. The current government should open the sealed rooms of the Taj Mahal under U.N. supervision, and let international experts investigate. Do circulate this to all you know and let them know about this reality.....This link ........it adds as a visual proof to what is described above.

Kathak-kali and Odissi - The great classical dance of India.

Posted on Dec 18th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
dances-kerala-tour

Kathakali - is one of the oldest theatre forms in the world. It originated in the area of southwestern India now known as the state of Kerala. Kathakali is a group presentation, in which dancers take various roles in performances traditionally based on themes from Hindu mythology, especially the two epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.

One of the most interesting aspects of Kathakali is its elaborate make-up code. Characters are categorized according to their nature. This determines the colours used in the make-up. The faces of noble male characters, such as virtuous kings, the divine hero Rama, etc., are predominantly green. Characters of high birth who have an evil streak, such as the demon king Ravana, are allotted a similar green make-up, slashed with red marks on the cheeks. Extremely angry or excessively evil characters wear predominantly red make-up and a flowing red beard. Forest dwellers such as hunters are represented with a predominantly black make-up base. Women and ascetics have lustrous, yellowish faces.

The technique of Kathakali includes a highly developed language of gesture, through which the artist can convey whole sentences and stories. The body movements and footwork are very rigourous. To attain the high degree of flexibility and muscle control required for this art, a Kathakali dancer undergoes a strenuous course of training, and special periods of body massage.

The dancers wear large head dresses, and the contours of the face are extended with moulded lime. The extraordinary costumes and make-up serve to raise the participants above the level of mere mortals, so that they may transport the audience to a world of wonders.

face-kathakali

The orchestra of a Kathakali performance includes two drums known as the chenda and the maddalam, along with cymbals and another percussion instrument, the ela taalam. Normally, two singers provide the vocal accompaniment. The style of singing particular to Kathakali is called Sopaanam. The orchestra of a Kathakali troupe is unique and provides not only the background to the dancing, but also serves as a highly expressive special effects team. In the traditional village ambiance, the percussionists also provide publicity for the event by playing outside the venue for some hours before the start of the show.

A traditional Kathakali performance begins in the evening and continues throughout the night, culminating at the auspicious hour of dawn, when Good finally conquers Evil. Today, however, it has been modified for the proscenium stage, and urban audiences can participate in this ritualistic theatre experience in the comfort of a plush auditorium, within the span of a couple of hours.

ODISSI  - traces its origins to the ritual dances performed in the temples of ancient northern India. Today the name Odissi refers to the dance style of the state of Orissa in eastern India. Like other classical arts of India, this ancient dance style had suffered a decline as temples and artists lost the patronage of feudal rulers and princely states, and by the 1930s and 40s, there were very few surviving practitioners of the art.

The current form of Odissi is the product of a 20th century revival. Dedicated scholars and dance enthusiasts carefully researched manuscripts and studied the sculpture, painting and poetry of the region. They also met and observed the performances of the few existing performers, in order to revive and restructure Odissi as a unique classical dance style adapted to the requirements of formal stage presentation. Over the years Odissi has become one of the most popular classical dance styles.

Like other Indian classical dance forms, Odissi has two major facets: Nritta or non-representational dance, in which ornamental patterns are created using body movements in space and time; and Abhinaya, or stylized mime in which symbolic hand gestures and facial expressions are used to interpret a story or theme.

The divine love tales of Radha and the cowherd God Krishna are favourite themes for interpretation, and a typical recital of Odissi will contain at least one or two ashtapadis (poem of eight couplets) from Jayadeva's Gita Govindam, which describes in exquisite Sanskrit poetry the complex relationship between Radha and her Lord.

The technique of Odissi includes repeated use of the tribhangi, or thrice deflected posture, in which the body is bent in three places, approximating the shape of a helix. This posture and the characteristic shifting of the torso from side to side, make Odissi a difficult style to execute. When mastered, it is the epitome of fluid grace and has a distinctively lyrical quality that is very appealing.

Are you a morning person or a night person?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 19, 2007:

I get up early morning and jog in the out-skirt of city, followed by Asanas and in last i give time like 10 minutes to Pranayamas. although i am not regular but mostly this is my routine and feels tremendous energy, refreshing and soothing of mind and soul both. I am not habitual of waking up late night, but if there are works then it may last 1am ( maximum ).

This is my own experience and feelings while jogging in morning, enjoy my walk with energies flowing through nature, i enjoy the calmness, placidness of nature during morning, i enjoy the freshness of breezes, i enjoy the orgies of chirrups and murmurs of birds, i enjoy facing the sun while rising and some new horizon always provoke in my mind while gazing at sun. rejoice in ownself when i glance at first buds, it is awesome to see drops of moisture on grasses, leaves.

In my opinion, get up early is a wise and prudent mantra to lead a healthy, refreshing and chellenging life. cuz this is my own experience of extracting energies and developing energies through nature and blessings of morning, additionally Yoga also, Sages also have pointed to do yoga morning is best and congruent span of time.

Sun says to me - O owais convoke all those my well-wishers who are in deep sleep, and tell them,  you can see me in morning how this ' life giving creature' looks -  quoted by Owais.
Hence i invite every people who sleeps late by, to join my refreshes and rejoices with nature and Yoga.

A beautiful and rich- architectured temple during Chola Regime

Posted on Dec 20th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais

THE SMALL and little-known suburb of Madambakkam, situated close to Tambaram ( 30 kms away from CHENNAI ), is home to a very ancient temple dedicated to Lord Siva, known here as Lord Dhenupureeswarar.

This temple, dating back to more than a thousand years, was built during the reign of the Chola king, Parantaka II, also known as Sundara Chola (956-973 A.D.), father of Rajaraja Chola I, who constructed the famous Brihadeeswara temple in Thanjavur. This temple was probably rebuilt of stone during the reign of Kulottunga Chola I.

There are beautiful sculptures of Ganesha, Dakshinamurti, Vishnu, Brahma and Goddess Durga in the niches of the outer walls of the sanctum. Also seen nearby are shrines for Lord Ganesha, Sri Varadaraja Perumal with Sri Devi and Bhu Devi, Sri Kapilanathar and Annapurani and Sivasubrahmanya with Valli and Deivanai.

The sanctum of Goddess Dhenukambal, situated close to the main shrine, faces south and has a separate entrance in front. There are a number of cylindrical pillars in front of this shrine with beautifully carved bases.

The walls of the main shrine and the Ambal shrine have numerous ancient epigraphs neatly etched in ancient Tamil script belonging to the reign of the Chola kings like Kulottunga III and Rajaraja III. There are also some epigraphs of Jatavarman Sundara Pandya and rulers of the Vijayanagara age like Kampana Udaiyar, Devaraya II and Sadasiva Raya.

This ancient village, now called Madambakkam, was once known as Ulaguyyavanda-Chola Chaturvedimangalam. It was part of the ancient territorial subdivision called Nedugunra Nadu in Puliyur-Kottam situated in Jayamkonda-Cholamandalam.

Many important festivals like Pradosham and Panguni Uttiram are celebrated in this temple. During Navarathri, which begins from September 26, many devotees visit this shrine to offer special pujas. This beautifully maintained temple-complex, situated in serene surroundings, is a protected monument under the care of the Archaeological Survey of India.

By which 'sense' are you most affected?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for December 21, 2007:

Siona - Good question , well i am largely inspired and drived away by the truthness, purity  and deepthness of creativity in anything. '' To touch a girl or sex a girl is not love, but a desire a negative desire ; but to fell in love of woman is honesty, truthness, depthness of senses and half the life. ''  - quoted by Owais

I get much provoked or compelled  through something which truly worth in purity, richness, art, containing integration of souls calling towards light and ecstasy and wisdom i think that is love of humanity, that is self-less love for humankind, that is enlightenment, that is honesty, that is truthness, that is friendship, that caring hands for destitutes, that is nature, that ecology, that is life-processes, i think essence of love and care of one woman is also purity, depthness and light of truthness.

Kolam art is one of traditional custom and practice of Indians

Posted on Dec 26th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
birds kolam

Kolams are a symbol of auspiciousness.  It is Hindu belief that that the geometrical patterns & designs applied with rice flour at the entrance to a home, invites Goddess lakshmi into the household, and drives away the evil spirits.  Also, the reason for using rice flour is that we are providing food for the ants & other small insects.  In these days finely ground white stone powder is used, for this is easier to apply & also the kolams are more brighter & well finished.  Even if ground stone powder is used, one could mix rice flour in it.  In places, where there is a great gathering of people & movement, rice paste made by mixing rice flour with little water is used to apply kolams.  This is to ensure that the kolams are not rubbed off easily.  This is especially applied in temples & wedding halls.  During Krishna Jayanthi, tiny feet symbols are drawn using the rice paste from the entrance of the house leading upto the pooja room, where the sweets made for the occasion are placed.  It is assumed that child Lord Krishna walks into each house & partakes of the meal provided.

Traditionally, the women wash the path in front of the house.   (Cowdung is used to clean up the ground, though this practise is no longer in vogue in the cities, mainly because cowdung is not easily available & most entrance path are now laid in cement or tiles.)  Finely ground rice powder is then used to apply kolams.  This practice is followed in the evenings also.

There are several types of kolam designs.  There are line kolams, where there is the free hand drawing of lines to make a geometrical pattern.

Pulli (dots) are arranged in a specific sequence and order & these pullis are joined to make pictorial designs. In the pulli kolam type, there is an another type - forming of twisted chains by linking one loop with the next & forming wonderful designs with the basic pattern. This is called Chuzhi kolam.

Plates, Boxes are available with the designs etched as tiny holes.  When these are filled with kolam powder & tapped on the ground, you have a lovely kolam.  Rollers are also availabe.  The rollers are filled with kolam powder & rolled/dragged to create lines, and with a little imagination a kolam of your choice can be executed.

Rangoli is also similar to kolam which is created by using dry colors on entrance of houses.

Rangoli - The essence of indian women's arts

Posted on Dec 26th, 2007 by owais : Be good, Do good owais
rangoli

Rangoli - is a Sanskrit word which means a creative expression of art through the use of color. The word rangoli may also have come from "rang" (color) + "aavalli" (row), which means row of colors, or from rang+avalli, which means creepers of colors. Basically, Rangoli is the art of drawing images and motifs on the floor and walls of one's home using different color powders. Designed with a beautiful combination of various colors, the Rangoli images create an enchanting piece of art. Basically a floor painting, a rangoli image stands for a sign of welcome. The main purpose of making rangolis in diwali is to welcome Goddess Laxmi, the Goddess of wealth, to individual homes apart from warding off the evil eye. The art of rangoli is known by different names in different regions such as "Rangoli" in Maharashtra, Alpana (in Bengal), and Kolam (in South India). Although Rangoli has its origins in Maharashtra, today it is practiced everywhere. One of the most popular arts among Indian women, rangoli is an age old custom of India, and practiced all over the country.

The Rangoli designs are passed down through generations, with some of them being hundreds of years old. Though the designs vary in different sections of India, the basic approach is common. The designs are geometric and proportioned. It has been a tradition in culturally rich India to draw Rangoli on the festivals and other auspicious occasions as it is considered a holy ritual. There is a unique relationship between the festival of diwali and rangoli. Diwali is a major festival of India and drawing rangoli on diwali is a part of diwali celebrations.

The patterns are made with finger using rice powder, crushed lime , stone, or colored chalk. They may be topped with grains, pulses, beads, or flowers. Since the entire objective of making rangoli in diwali is to welcome Goddess Laxmi, small footprints coming into the home, representing the footprints of the Goddess, are also made. Rangolis can be of any size, from the size of a doormat, to the covering an entire room. although making of a Rangoli is highly dependent on the preferences and skills of the maker, lines are always drawn on one finger movement (rangolis are always drawn with fingers) and frequently, the mapping of the rangoli is done with the help of dots, which are joined to form a pattern, and then the pattern is filled with colors. One important point is that the entire pattern must be an unbroken line, with no gaps to be left anywhere, for evil spirits are believed to enter through such gaps, if they find one. In an expert hand, the images created are elaborate and look as if they are painted. In India, this art is temporary. Each rangoli design generally stays for only a day or two as it is often redone as a part of the daily routine. Certain designs are created on special occasions such as weddings and religious festivals like Diwali.

Rangoli designs are generally based on themes that have been in use through ages. The common rangoli themes are the celestial symbols such as the rising sun, moon, stars, zodiac signs, holy symbols like Om, mangal kalash, swastika, chakra, a lighted Deepak, trident, "shree", lotus etc. Goddess Lakshmi in the lotus symbolizes the figure of renewed life. Other popular themes are natural images like flowers, creepers, trees, fish, birds, elephants, dancing figures, human figures and geometrical figures such as circles, semi-circles, triangles, squares and rectangles. Drawing Diwali rangoli at the entrance door of individual homes is the common sight during Diwali decoration. For this, the footsteps of Goddess Lakshmi entering into the home are designed at the main entrance of the home or near the place of worship, which indicates the entrance of prosperity in the home. This is the special Diwali rangoli for the entrance. It is considered auspicious as it signifies showering of good luck and prosperity on the house and in the family.
